Book Giveaway - Getting Things Done! OMG!
I have a copy of David Allen’s New York Times bestselling book - Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress Free Productivity - that is surplus to requirements, (I enjoyed this book so much, I bought three copies) so I’m gonna give it away to a very lucky site visitor (international postage included)!
A couple of words about the book
If you’ve not read Getting Things Done before, you are really missing out. David Allen is one of THE go-to guys on personal productivity and his GTD system has taken the world by storm. The book details the steps involved in the GTD process. It’s a simple system that anyone can implement, and can be quite fun to follow too. The underlying concept is to get things off your mind. While things are on your mind, your subconscious is still processing those things. David suggests getting those things out of your head and into a ‘trusted system’ so that your mind is clear to focus on the things that are important to you and focus ONLY on those things. David explains how to develop that trusted system and provides you with the rules and procedures to get your life, both work and personal, organised. The Simple Dollar has a very comprehensive review if you want to know more.
About this great giveaway
Now, I need to get some more exposure for this blog, and I need some links too. So, I’m interested in your ideas on how to best make use of the giveaway of this life-changing book, to promote this blog…
Some ideas so far:
- The old “In 25 words or less….” routine, perhaps in the comments. Hmm..?
- Pick a random commenter after a pre-determined amount of time. Leaning towards this.
- Fastest Finger First - don’t know how that would best work…
- Encourage bloggers to post about one of my stories and I’ll select a linked site at random on some nominated date. This would be awesome..
I don’t know. You’re all a creative bunch - what say you? What would YOU do to help promote my site with the chance of scoring yourself a copy of one of the greatest productivity books of all time? Grateful, as ever, for suggestions, giveaway ideas, comments, your thoughts on the book, the man and the system. Nothing to lose and everything to gain…go for it. Cheers.

Well one way is to promote the heck out of your blog. I’m an author who’s book sales have jumped dramatically ever since I kicked up the awareness and popularity of my blog. Get your blog cross-linked with other high-traffic blogs that cater to the same demographics as your readership. I don’t see any sitemeter here, so I don’t know what kind of traffic you have so far, but the relatively few comments indicate you’re not getting read here all that much. Internal links in your post texts that add info & value to your readers. Visit other blogs along the same lines and leave comments with your blog url in the signature - people will tail you over here. You already use twitter (how I found you)- that’s good, maybe use it more.
Just a few ideas some of the things that helped my blog go from obscurity to popularity with a regular readership and fan base in just a few short months.
Hope that helps!

Hi John,
Like your book giveaway idea. A great blog promotion technique.
Here are my suggestions.
I see on the feedjit widget that lot of readers are coming from social sites like digg & stumbleupon. You should submit your pillar articles to more social sites. You can use onlywire.com or socialposter.com to semi-automate this process. Do this only for very resourceful posts.
List-building: You could find a PLR (private label rights) E-Book to giveaway to your readers, if they signup for your newsletter or RSS. Now that you are on wordpress, you don’t have to go for the $20/m auto-responders. Wordpress has free plug-ins. I’m listing 2 here.

Best way to grow your blog is to comment on other blogs and when you do be sure to include a link to your blog. Commenting will add links back to your own blog. Do a search on technorati to find the highest authority rating in your niche and start commenting. Love to get a copy of this book. We’re located in Canada.
