Hey, MySpace..Eww!
Speaking of quality things (ahem!), and this is purely an aesthetic observation (no comments, or aspersions cast on the 120+ Million, with an M(!), MySpace users - many of which are GREAT people), but MySpace is a complete and absolute visual and audible assault on my sense of taste. MySpace, you is UGLY!
I’m no design expert and could probably do no better, but it seems that as bad as you can possible make it IS the new “better”. Facebook, in it’s visual delivery, is several orders of magnitude better IMHO, but many MySpacers may think it’s dull and boring and lacks “pizazz”.
Searching for a decent, semi-sane, and semi-serious layout from the myriad of “pimp my space” style layout sites is a nigh on impossible quest. I think there might be a niche market out there for someone…
Flashing lights, blinking text, horrible (often animated) repeating background images, low contrast between foreground text and background imagery, enormous animated gifs, fluro text, the list goes on. This, my friend, is the danger of putting CSS into the hands of the untrained.
MySpace is what the web looked like when NCSA Mosaic and Netscape Navigator ruled the roost in ‘93-’94. I thought we had progressed since then? All we need is animated “Under Construction” signs and it’d be a complete trip back in time. Maybe I’m just getting old?
Know of any professional looking MySpace layout sites? Let me know in the comments. Chz!
Despite all that, come visit me on MySpace and “friend me up” here ;-)

I agree 10,000 percent on that one, though I admit I’m a design snob.
Even scarier: A whole generation is growing up thinking this is good design. Can’t wait until we see the New York Times in 10 years with crawling ants across the banner.
Having said that, yes, I need to develop my MySpace account because it does have traffic. I’ve just tended to stick to Facebook because it doesn’t give me as many migraines.
